Richard Glover at Ipswich Art Gallery
Surburban Frontier is showing at the Ipswich Art Gallery from 29 May to 25 July 2010.
In 'Suburban Frontier' architectural photographer Richard Glover turns his gaze away from fastidiously designed homes and focuses instead on the middle-class reality of many who are pursuing the Great Australian Dream — urban sprawl. This exhibition is comprised of two series. The first, Kellyville, is a study of a newly created suburb in north-west Sydney and features newly completed houses which are yet to be occupied. Glover’s uniform, black-and-white approach simultaneously reveals differences in design while exposing the impersonal sameness of the houses.
The second series New Suburbs considers the established, inhabited suburb. Panoramic, colour photographs capture suburban streetscapes but reveal little more than the façade of homogenised homes. While the images are devoid of people, the viewer is left wondering about what goes on behind the closed doors.
Ipswich Art Gallery is located at: d'Arcy Doyle Place, Nicholas St, Ipswich. The gallery is open seven days a week from 10am until 5pm.
